Williams Racing have announced that James Vowles will take over as the new Team Principal for the Grove outfit.

Vowles joins the team after leaving his role as Motorsport Strategy Director at Mercedes, where he has been working since the team ran as British American Racing, then Honda, followed by Brawn and now Mercedes but leaves to take over Williams, who are still looking to fill gaps in the team left by key departures.

At Mercedes he was best known as the voice behind the big calls over the radio, notably to Valtteri Bottas, urging him to help then teammate Lewis Hamilton when Hamilton was winning championships, with the now famous “Valtteri, its James” radio message often heard during races.

Among the first tasks for Vowles at Williams will be filling the roles vacated by former Technical Director FX Demaison and other members of staff including the Head of Aerodynamics at the end of the 2022 season.

“I cannot wait to start with Williams Racing. It's an honour to join a team with such an incredibly rich heritage. The team is an icon of our sport, one I greatly respect, and I am very much looking forward to the challenge" said Vowles.

He'll officially start his new job on February 20th.
