Clapham North MOT’s George Grant put in one of the performances of his career at Trac Môn Anglesey Circuit, taking a win and two podium finishes in the Masters class in Round 4 of the 2023 Mazda MX-5 SuperCup.
Having battled car issues throughout the season so far, the excellent Rob Boston Racing team totally rebuilt the #69 Mazda MX-5 Mk3, with Grant seeing immediate benefits in testing.
Heading into qualifying with confidence, the Kingston-upon-Thames racer displayed excellent speed, setting himself up well for the rest of the weekend. Grant then backed up that performance with one of the best races of his career, moving even further up the order, showing strong attacking and defensive driving to finish 11th overall and take his first Masters class victory of the campaign.
Rain came on Sunday to the delight of Grant, and he felt at home in the slippery conditions to claim third in class. The weekend was completed with another visit to the podium in Race 3, making it a successful event for the Clapham North MOT owner.
The Mazda MX-5 Supercup returns on 22-23 July at Snetterton in Norfolk.
George Grant: “This weekend has to go down as one of the best events of my career! After the technical issues we’ve struggled with this season, Rob Boston and his team did a mega job to strip the car down and rebuild it from the bottom up. We took it on track and it immediately felt better, meaning I could attack the weekend with full confidence. My qualifying pace is improving, which is so crucial in this championship, so I was delighted to start higher up than in recent weeks. Race 1 was great for me, I was able to keep some really talented drivers behind and secure victory, which was incredibly satisfying. Sunday morning was really fun in the rain, claiming another podium, and then to finish it off in the afternoon with third place completed an amazing weekend of racing! Thanks to Rob and the team for their hard work and I’m already looking forward to heading to Snetterton next month.”
