The TCR European Championship is now entering its final phase. The title is up for grabs and so are bragging rights to the World Final in February 2K24.
Last time out in France the TCR Europe Series saw another two exciting races which saw Audi stamping its authority in both races. John Filippi and Kobe Pauwels were the victors overall with Pauwels taking another double in the Rookie championship. Nicola Baldan stuck a blow to Tom Coronel’s dominance of the Diamond class, by taking two wins on the famed venue of Paul Ricard. The circuit that plays host to French Grand Prix and the into the night race for the GT World Challenge Endurance Cup.
The championship is still in Coronel’s favour. The Touring car legend has a commanding lead of 37 points over Filippi. Pauwels holds third place with Viktor Davidovski and Dusan Borkovic rounding out the top five. Britain’s Lewis Brown and Issac Smith are currently sixth and eighth, respectively with Viktor Andersson in seventh, representing Swedish hopes. 9 different nationalities are in the top 10 with Baldan from Italy and Spain’s Felipe Fernandez rounding out the top 10. Additional entries are, once again, on the cards. One of the most highly rated is the PMA Motorsport entry. Their Audi will be driven by Felice Jelmini, a veteran of last season and a top contender in the TCR Italy Championship.
As ever, the championship will be supporting the International GT Open and EuroFormula Open championships with additional supporter action will come from the GT Cup Europe, Porsche Carrera Cup France and BOSS GP championship. This series features a variety of classic single seater cars including F1, GP2, Formula Renault 3.5 and Champ Car World Series machines.
The action is set to take place at the iconic racetrack of Monza. A place that Ferrari calls home and also home of the Italian Grand Prix. The track has seen several changes in its layout over the decades. Originally starting out as a track with a significant amount of banking before morphing into the modern racing layout we know it today. It is a track that has seen much drama, triumph, emotion, and tragedy over its long lifetime. And has also been a great illustration of the changes that have been made to make the track and racing in general safer and more exciting for both drivers and fans. The track has even hosted the famed Monza Rally Show and even two thrilling finales of the World Rally Championship at the start of the current decade. Now it’s TCR Europe’s turn to add a little more history to this amazing and cherished racing facility.
