The first round of the 2023 GT Masters season was an all-Porsche affair with victory in both races for the famed brand from Stuttgart. Now the tour heads to the streets of one of Germany’s famous cities, Nuremberg.
The first event of the new 2023 season saw many close battles between the top teams in German motorsport. With Race 1 being won by the 92 Porsche of Huber Racing. Seeing former Supercup and Carrera Cup graduates Jaxon Evans and Tim Zimmermann taking the opening spoils. Race two saw further success for the Porsche brand as they won the second race. This time with the 91 entry from Team Joos by RACEmotion. Piloted by Finn Gehrsitz and Sven Muller.
Despite scoring fifth in race two it’s the Huber crew of Evans and Zimmermann who led the points heading into round two. The entry of Gehrsitz and Muller are second by just 1 point. The rest of the top five is rounded out by the Schubert Motorsport entry of Ben Green and Eduardo Coseteng, Haupt Racing’s Arjun Maini and Petru Razvan Umbrarescu and the second Huber entry of Jannes Fittje and Nico Menzel.
The championship’s second round will take place at the famed and fearsome Norisring street circuit in Nuremberg this weekend. The circuit is one of the most iconic and demanding in motorsport. Throughout its long life it has played host to many famed championships on the German racing scene. Including the old and current DTM, European F3, German F3, German Interserie racing and the VW Golf Cup. It’s most distinctive and recognised feature is the first corner. Which takes the form of a tight hairpin bend a few hundred yards from the start/finish line.
It’s a critical overtaking area on the circuit and one that seems to invite everyone to make passes on the first lap. Leading to many a Congested and chaotic start over the decades. It is also a track that has produced some of the most intense and memorable action in DTM and other German series. Not least, providing fantastic camera angles to cover these incredible and sometimes controversial moments.
The stars of GT Masters will take to these iconic streets on 8th and 9th of July. Will the Porsche winning machine take another sweep on the streets? Or will the efforts of Lambo, Mercedes, Audi, and BMW show the Stuttgart brand who the kings of the streets really are. Find out with live coverage of both races via ADAC on YouTube and coverage on Motorsport.tv.
