Williams Racing has confirmed that Simon Roberts will leave the team after the completion of Jost Capito's 100-day review has been completed. Capito, CEO of Williams, will take on Roberts' duties.

Roberts joined Williams in the middle of 2020, becoming acting-Team Principal of the team after the Williams family left at the Italian Grand Prix. He then became the official Team Principal before Christmas.

However, with CEO Capito's 100-day review of the team now complete, Roberts has stepped down from his role with Capito taking on the duties of Racing Director.

This is due to an apparent need to simplify the structure of command in the Grove-based team, with Technical Director, Francois-Xavier Demaison, who was brought into the team by Capito, now managing the team at the race track.

“It has been a pleasure to take on the role of Team Principal following the departure of the Williams family from the sport," Roberts began.

"However, with the transition well underway I am looking forward to a new challenge and wish everyone in the team well for the future.”

It is yet to be confirmed where Roberts will go now he has left the Williams team. However, with the experience of 17 years at McLaren and now Williams, he may be in high demand given his experience in Formula 1.
