Alpha Tauri have announced that Team Principal Franz Tost will step down at the end of the current Formula 1 season and will be replaced by current Ferrari Deputy Team Principal and Racing Director Laurent Mekies.
Tost, 67, has been with Alpha Tauri since their inception as a team in F1 under Scuderia Toro Rosso guise in 2005.
In his time with the team he’s led the team to two wins and five podium in 332 race entries and has helped oversee the development of a number of young drivers including Max Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda among many other.
Replacing Tost is Lauren Mekies who has been with Ferrari since 2018 but previously worked with Toro Rosso as the team’s Chief Engineer from 2005 to 2014, before working for the FIA as Deputy Race Director and Safety Director.
