F1 elects not to replace cancelled Chinese GP

Formula 1 has confirmed that this year’s Chinese Grand Prix will not be replaced, and the series will run a 23 race calendar.

The Shanghai International Circuit was due to return this year with a slot provisionally confirmed for the 14th to the 16th of April but was cancelled after COVID restrictions were put in place once again in China, meaning the F1 circus will again not visit having last been to China in 2019.

A number of replacement races, most notably Portimão, were touted to fill what is now almost a month’s break between races in Australia and then Azerbaijan.

23 races will feature on the calendar, including the debuts of Las Vegas and Qatar, while Bahrain again hosts the opener as has been the case since 2021.
