FIA Formula 2 driver Jehan Daruvala will make his F1 debut with the McLaren team at Silverstone this week. The Indian racer occupies third place in the F2 standings, as he races with PREMA.

Daruvala, 23, is in his second year of F2 having finished seventh overall racing with the Carlin Racing team in 2021.

So far this year, the Red Bull Junior Team driver is yet to take a win in F2 but has managed five podiums from the opening twelve races, scoring points in ten of them.

Daruvala will run in the MCL35M, the 2021 edition of McLaren F1 cars, and will hope to impress as McLaren are yet to announce which drivers will run in the mandatory rookie FP1 sessions for this year, with only American based drivers Colton Herta and Pato O’Ward currently in the frame to fill that role.

At this stage it remains to be seen if Daruvala will feature more with McLaren, but this test will be a good indicator for both driver and team as to whether the relationship between the two will continue. The situation is further complicated by the fact Daruvala is affiliated with the Red Bull team.

Daruvala, a product of the former Force India team’s ’one in a billion’ program said; “Super excited and grateful for the opportunity to have my first experience in a Formula 1 car testing with @McLarenF1 this week! A big thank you to the Red Bull Junior Team, my family, my support team, Mumbai Falcons , McLaren and to everyone who’s supported me along the way!”, in a post on his social media.
