Championship contender Leclerc to take 10 place penalty

Charles Leclerc will start this weekend on the wrong foot after the Ferrari team were forced to change the control electronics on the #16 Prancing Horse.

Leclerc’s car has suffered two engine related DNF’s in two of the last three Grand Prix’s, including the last race in Azerbaijan. Unfortunately for Leclerc, both DNF’s also both came while leading the race.

As a result, the Monegasque driver has gone from first in the championship with a healthy lead, down to third behind the Red Bull cars of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, with Mercedes’ George Russell just 17 points behind him.

This weekend’s action in Canada will be the first at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve since 2019.
